One of the most common questions we get is "When should I have my senior portraits taken"?
There are several factors when considering when you should have them taken, however the following suggestions may help you no matter what school you go to or activities you are involved in.
The Very BEST time to have them taken is obvious:
SUMMERTIME!
- Your schedule is WAY less hectic
- You have a good tan
- Once school starts you will be way ahead of the game
Why is this important?
As soon as school begins, you will start getting requests for photos for the slide show, the yearbook, athletic programs, the senior banquet and on and on and on. If you go to a private school, often their yearbook deadlines are in the early to mid fall. You don't want to settle for some cell phone photo for these important things. Having your professional portraits done in the summer will assure that you will have amazing photos to share for all the things!
Summer drawbacks:
- It's hot! No doubt. We tend to photograph in the early morning or late evening hours when the sun is low on the horizon. Sunrise is the coolest time of the day and is the ideal time for outdoor portraits.
- You don't know where you are going to college yet. Never fear, we have an "Encore" Session just for that reason. Come back in the spring once you know where you will be going for a super quick photo of you in your college choice attire.
- I don't have my cap and gown. No worries...we have all the caps and gowns for all the schools in San Antonio and surrounding areas.
FALL/AUTUMN
Not feeling it for summer? Early to mid fall is a great time! The weather is starting to cool off and you are immersed in your senior year. The trouble is, if you are in football, band, cheer or dance the demands on your time are NUTS! It is hard to find anytime that you can dedicate to getting your portraits taken. If you are not involved in those activities then FALL is a wonderful time for your senior portraits.
WINTER
You are now in the final semester of your senior year. All the deadlines are fast approaching. January and February don't have a lot of greenery for outdoor nature portraits, but if you love an urban feel or studio look then this is a great time of year for that.
SPRING
Spring is a beautiful time of year, but let's be honest: Your senior year is almost over. You have missed all the deadlines to have your professional portraits printed in programs, yearbook ads and so much more. This is CRUNCH TIME! Every weekend is another event to attend and your schedule is jam-packed. Finding time to have your portraits taken is a real challenge. This is the time of year for all of those who have procrastinated and are now a bit panicked to get their announcements in time to mail out. Do yourself a favor and don't wait until the spring to have your portraits taken. However, this is a great time for your ENCORE session to show off your college choice.
